Ilona's Mother is in town

Hildagard is in town for the week. That means Ilona will be in town with her. Leaving me to my own devices.
So I am using my page to "park" a few items until I get my webpage setup.
I am also doing a lot of work around the house and yard. Making sure I dust the house everyday just in case you know who decides to have Ilona bring her out for a visit.

This is a view of the Face I used to see when looking at my land from Google Earth Posted by Picasa

WoW

I totally missed September. Well, as I said before the school has closed. I am once again seeking employment. Meanwhile I am working my tail off at home.. Clean and drain the pool. Seal the deck. Working on the Sage Bushes. Getting ready to start tree trimming. And now having to run into town and be social. I'm trying to upload some pictures so you can see the evil face. The changes in the yard will not be visible until the next satelite update which will be next year.

School is OUT

Well, sad day. Andert Gaming Academy is closing it's doors. Which of course puts me back on the street looking for a new employer. My idea is too jump right in and go find a new job. My partner on the other hand thinks I should wait until the end of September. She goes on Vacation on Sept 16th I think. Well I now have a Deuces Wild machine in my living room. Oh goodie a new and bigger piggy bank. I also have a video Roll Credits and an IGT slot in the shed. All machines are slant tops.

I took a tumble out of the truck while unloading cabinets at the boss's house. That was fun. Let me tell you. From the ground to the tailgate is a big tumble. I am very grateful to my karate master for teaching me to roll. A little stiff this weekend, being in the water gets everything loose again.

Other news. I spent 3 hours this morning cleaning all the sand out of the pool. I can now see the pool and not sand. Tomorrow I will dose the water with Algacide. The water is now below 80 degrees. I guess swimming season is over for me.

Sometime in Sept I will start with the papercrete again. I currently have 4 barrels of paper ready to go. I also need to sort out all my tools.

Blessed Be

Just another summer

Well I have been busy as usual reading books during the hot part of the day. Making and laying blocks in the evening. We finally decided on a project. So some new pictures. Including a couple of my mate and self. Hey Kathy, the pool is full of sand again.. I think I'll call it a pond and maybe put some fish in it.
The Summer reading program includes all books by David Bach((millionair series) - done
The Sedona Method - done
EFT - done
Bittersweet by Nevada Barr - done
All your worth by Elizabeth Warren - done
Time for some Yoga before going outside to do some more playing in the mud

Well that's about it for this month. It's starting to get hot - I may start making fibercrete in the evening when it cools off some. Now the question is what should I build?  Posted by Picasa

Very Busy Month

First off it's been a very busy month.
1. The washing machine flooded the house while I was outside. It is now sitting on the back porch and it works just fine out their.. Hmmm new closet space?
2. The pool is giving me fits. I had to get a new vacuum. The motor does not have enough power to run it. I got new filters. Now it works for about 15 minutes then loses power.
3. The boss said get rid of the pigions at the school. So I brought them home. That meant turning the dog kennel into a bird house.
4. When am I supposed to listen to self improvement tapes?
5. Trying to learn EFT if you do not know what it means look it up on the web.
6. Got a new truck
See the pictures to see how my fibercrete block supply is growing.
7. The dogs have a new pasttime. They jump in the sammy and let the wind blow in there faces while I drive around mixing fibercrete. They also enjoy yanking my headset off my head.

The New Mixer

Did you know for instance that the differential must be COMPLETELY filled with heavy weight oil. Good thing I filled it up. The weight lifting machine became the welded part of the frame. Then I added a 1" think piece of plywood for the barrel to sit on. Then crawl inside and screw the barrel to the wood. Tip it upside down and fill the gap with bondo.

The new and much improved mixer

Alt Homebuilding - PaperCrete - Other Things

Well my new mixer is finished. Today I made 4 batches. I now have over 75 blocks. It will still take awhile to get enough blocks to start building. I need to open my cadd program and add the extension on the house then let that program calculate the number of blocks that I will need. Right now I have blocks that are 3' long 12" wide and 6" deep. I also have 2'x1'x6 and a couple that are 6'x12'x6. I have also finally figured out how to build a slip form ( yep the one I have is built wrong) live and learn I guess. I will try to post some pictures tomorrow. But you know as long as the sun is shining I will be outside making blocks. OH, I almost forgot. I made the drain hole 10" on the mixer. That little 4" hole was the pits.

Poor Mixer - Girls need engineering class too

Alt Homebuilding - PaperCrete - Other Things

Well Shucks I destroyed my mixer. Well that's what happens when you cannot find clear cut instructions on how to build one. I have been trying to take it apart for two weekends now. It is welded together - You ever try to break weld joints? It was the bondo that gave way. So I had to break down and purchase the DVD video on building a mixer. Hope it comes in sometime before next Friday so that I will have time to purchase the materials needed.

I did go out this weekend and pick up a bunch of junk that some fool dumped out in the desert. Excellent hardwood for the fireplace. An old washing machine and a weight lifting machine. Both already taken apart for parts. Unhappily I smacked my foot pretty good getting the weight machine out of the truck and this evening I can barely put weight on my foot. That should slow me down some in class this week - I might actually have to sit down for a change. Perish the thought. I do after all own a couple of cane's and some crutches. Just hope I can put my boots on Monday morning. Well that's about it for this week.

Big Mistake

Alt Homebuilding - PaperCrete - Other Things

Well I did not get to cut my blocks out. Ilona ended up taking a chain saw to them. Says it felt like cutting through butter. So now I have those 9 blocks and the ones that I made today.

What I would like to do is find a way to mount the mixer so I can run it in a stationary position instead of driving a couple of miles up the road. I'm just not sure how to do it. I can raise up the mixer no problem I can jack up my sammi but how do you connect the wheels to get everything turning. We shall see what I can figure out tomorrow.

Ideas for Forms

Forms and Such

I found some other goodies to use as forms. A couple of square boxes. A couple of 8" water line tubes about 3 or 4 feet tall. I wonder how long I would need to leave the form in place?

5 batches

Well, I have finished making a tow behind mixer. took awhile. Actually had to buy wheels and tires for the axel. Used a 55 gallon steel drum and "bondo" forgot to put in the baffle for the first 2 mixes. Then I rewatched the video and fixed the problem. The first two mixes were expermints. 2 shovels cement and about 40 pounds of paper. Free poured out buy the shed.

Today after watching the videos for about the 3rd time I think I finally got it right. 2 shovels of cement weighs about 14 pounds. 14 pounds of paper and 2 shovels of sand. Now that fills up my barrel. Time to go for a very slow 2 mile drive.

So I made a 12"x12"x8' form takes two batches to fill it. Then I made a 6'x6'6" form to make "brownie" blocks. It got dark at 3 fills and I think it needs one more fill. Looks like I will not be able to cut it till tomorrow sometime.

I am pouring on top of carpet. The water drains off great and leaves me a pretty grey fill. I chopped my 8' log up into 3 sections. Tomorrow I will stack them and see how they hold up.

I already know I will be cutting my 6'x6' form down to 2'x6' it's 8:40 PM just took the form off the 6'x6' form and it is holding shape nicely. tomorrow will cut out the blocks.

Hot Dog, it's 80 degrees on the Front porch in the shade. Been playing with my little tow - mixer having lots of fun. Putting in 30 pounds of paper and filling 2/3 full the mix comes out really really thick. Next load I'll try 20 pounds of paper.

I still need to build some forms for building blocks. I also need to dig out a footer trench where I want to build the new shed around an old broken down van.

I need a longer weekend. I still have to do the laundry. As usual I brought work home and have not yet touched it. And I have a new class starting on the 20th.

If I can figure out how to upload pictures I'll do one of the mixer.

I DID IT !

02-11-2006 Thomas Edison's birthday

Well I did it. Today I finished my first papercrete mixer. I made my first batch of papercrete and poured it into a form which will someday form part of the driveway path and prevent people from parking to close to the trees.

After pouring I watched the beautiful clear water run out. Then I played in the papercrete for a few minutes. I might have started a little tree critter but it was windy and my hands got cold.

I love it. Tomorrow I will play in the papercrete some more. I have been collecting paper for over a year and have a shed full. More later
